Microwave Transmission Equipment Market Revenue Reaches $1.1 billion in Q2 2012

A new report from Dell' (News - Alert)Oro Group reveals that the point-to-point Microwave Transmission equipment market rebounded 21 percent in the second quarter of 2012 to reach $1.1 billion.

In the first quarter, the market revenue fell significantly below $1 billion.

Microwave sales picked up across all geographic regions, especially in the North America. Europe was the only area where growth continued to stall from a peak level it reached a year ago.

Among the different configuration of microwave transmission equipments, the split mount continues to remain as the most popular configuration with approximately 90 percent of shipments. Full outdoor unit configuration accounted for less than five percent of microwave shipments. This was favored by vertical markets rather than mobile backhaul.

The report, however, finds that requirements for low power and small footprint configurations will drive the demand for full outdoor units, which are mainly used for long haul transmission.

The Dell'Oro Group Microwave Transmission Quarterly Report offers complete, in-depth coverage of the market with tables covering manufacturers' revenue, ports/radio transceivers shipped, and average selling prices by capacities.

A recent survey conducted by Infonetics Research (News - Alert) on microwave equipment suppliers and operator deployment plans has found that global microwave equipment market totaled $1.2 billion in 2Q12, up 16 percent from the previous quarter and down six percent from the year-ago second quarter.

Ericsson (News - Alert) regained the number one position in the global microwave equipment market in 2Q12, with Huawei closely following. NEC that was leading the microwave market just a quarter ago, slipped to third. Huawei (News - Alert) had a huge quarter, its biggest ever for microwave equipment. The operator now counts some of the world's major tier 1 international operators as its microwave customers and often supplies their operations across many countries.

Among the global regions, EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) had the strongest second quarter, capturing around half of the global microwave equipment revenue.

Infonetics Research expects the microwave equipment market to grow to $6 billion by 2016.
