Dell’ (News - Alert)Oro Group, a provider of market information about the networking and telecommunications industries, stated that Fiber channel SAN market recorded sales of $1.3 billion in the first quarter of 2012, and as more users are opting for products with higher function, vendors are enjoying a higher average selling prices.

“The quarter saw both Cisco (News - Alert) and QLogic post sequential revenue growth of close to 20 percent. While Brocade’s revenue was down slightly quarter-over-quarter, they realized double digit revenue growth over the same quarter last year,” said Casey Quillin, senior analyst at Dell'Oro Group. “This quarter proves that customers continue to invest considerable capital in Fiber Channel to support mission-critical storage applications.”

Dell’Oro exclaimed that the SAN market is expanding in new directions to incorporate device, policy and data management layers. In addition, SAN technology is playing an important role as businesses consolidate infrastructure and solidify business continuity plans.

In order to leverage the opportunities available in this market, Dell’Oro advices users to understand the rate at which enterprises are equipping their Fiber channel with high-speed switches and adapters, the level of penetration of Fiber Channel SAN in small- and medium-sized enterprises and also learn about the reasons for migration from Ethernet (FCoE) networks to Fiber channels.

Dell’Oro Group’s newly published SAN quarterly report contains in-depth market-level and detailed vendor market share information on the Fiber Channel Switch and Fiber Channel Adapter markets.
