Waveform Technology, a private facilities-based Internet service provider and data center operator based in Troy, Michigan, recently announced the completion of its South Troy Fiber Optic construction project. This brand new fiber optic ring is aimed at businesses in the south Troy area, offering ultra high-speed Internet and private line data services.
According to Waveform, the location of the project was specifically selected to help serve the high density of financial, educational and medical concerns in the area. Furthermore, the recent heightened interest in cloud computing and off-site disaster recovery has areas across the country looking for cost effective, high-bandwidth solutions.
"This project helps demonstrate Waveform's commitment to Michigan, and to the Metro Detroit area." said Rich Tota, director of sales. "Our private fiber network allows us to provide bandwidth services at aggressive pricing with unparalleled performance."
Waveform's privately owned fiber optic network offers connectivity at speeds upwards of 10 Gigabits per second (Gbps) between client locations, between a client location and the Waveform data center, or directly to the Internet.
This new multi strand fiber optic ring connects to a larger pre-existing ring, capable of carrying over 784 Gbps by conservative estimates, by way of Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) and other technologies.
Waveform's Troy Michigan Data Center received a number of significant physical upgrades in October of 2011, providing increased capacity in order to meet demand for data center space, while improving service reliability and maximizing energy efficiency. Specifically, the company added over a half megawatt of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) capacity, and replaced the data center's backup power generator with a new custom-built Kohler (News - Alert) full megawatt generator.
About a month prior, Waveform completed a Statement on Auditing Standards number 70 audit at the Troy Michigan Data Center, which verified controls concerning data center environmental monitoring, physical security and system availability.
