MRV (News - Alert) Communications’ equipment and services allow for next-generation optical transport and carrier Ethernet services over any fiber infrastructure – even in remote areas.

MRV is a provider of carrier Ethernet, wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) optical transport, infrastructure management equipment and solutions, network integration and managed services, according to a company statement.

MRV can also provide integrated network management and economical equipment and network integration services advice.

MRV was founded in 1988 as an optical components business. In 1998, it had its first WDM Deployment. The following year, it had its first metro Ethernet deployment.

This was followed in 2009 with the first Ethernet access deployment for an LTE (News - Alert) 4G network.

One of its current focuses relates to the needs of rural areas. Mannix O’Conner, technical marketing director at MRV, said some of their customers are those who serve more remote locations. These include rural telcos, rural municipalities and third-party builders, who build fiber networks to campuses, cell towers and business parks.

“People need the infrastructure to come close to them so they can get the high bandwidth applications,” O’Conner said in a recent interview with TMC (News - Alert) CEO, Rich Tehrani.

“These networks are very complex. Consequently, they cost a lot of money to run,” O’Conner added. “We’ve invested quite a bit in software to automate all of the functions.”

The company’s customers include service providers, data centers, municipalities, the financial sector, government agencies and schools/colleges.

MRV Communications provides optical communications network infrastructure equipment and services to diverse telecom companies. These include multinational telecom operators, local municipalities, MSOs, corporate and consumer high-speed G-Internet service providers, and data storage and cloud computing providers.

Also, through its subsidiaries, MRV runs development centers in North America and Europe, as well as support centers and sales offices globally.

Recently, MRV Communications’ Optical Communications Systems (News - Alert) (OCS) expanded its OptiSwitch carrier Ethernet access portfolio to include MPLS connectivity, according to TMCnet.
