Stock exchanges cannot have enough redundancies in place because of the critical value of the data they use every second they are in operation. Recent successful DDoS attacks directed at Sony and Go daddy points out the need to have multiple sites for the safekeeping of an organizations database. In choosing Savvis, the Singapore Exchange (SGX) is guaranteeing the protection of its market and the members who use the exchange to trade nationally and across the world.
Savvis provides comprehensive collocation solutions for organizations with small, medium and large databases. It has an infrastructure which extends around the world in more than 50 data centers in North America, Europe and Asia totaling more than two million square feet. It can provide solutions for organization in high tech, finance, media, entertainment, business services and consumer packaged goods.
The collaboration with Savvis allows SGX to offer its financial clients solutions with collocation, network services, managed hosting and low latency connectivity. “We are delighted to work closely with Savvis in promoting out ultra-low latency colocation services and to offer dual-site hosting to financial institutions, which is ideal for business continuity,” said Tinku Gupta, head of market data and access at SGX.
Proximity Hosting is a service Savvis provides to achieve microsecond improvements in latency with automating trading. A microsecond might seem unimportant in the daily life of the average person but in the financial market large sums of assets can be gained or lost in that small span. Having the servers close to the data source means it doesn’t have to travel as long to get to its destination. By occupying the same physical space, the distance the data travels is shortened thereby reducing latency.
"This strategic arrangement with SGX reaffirms Savvis' leadership in financial services as well as our commitment to expanding our presence in Singapore, together we look forward to providing Singapore's financial market participants with secure, reliable enterprise-class solutions," said Mark Smith, managing director for Savvis Asia.
Another challenge businesses face is the increasing amount of content due to audio, graphics, images and video files. With its Enterprise Content Management (ECM), Savvis provides a collaborative environment from the creation to the delivery. The cloud based content management and file transfer service secures the data and distributes it to the right destination no matter where it is or the file size.
