Optical Local Area Networks (LAN) have become solutions of choice for delivering voice, data and video to workplaces, as more and more enterprises and government agencies have been looking for advanced workarounds to cut down on their IT expenditures.

Tellabs (News - Alert), a provider of enhanced solutions for smart mobile Internet, has announced it will launch the world’s smallest enterprise Optical Network Terminals (ONT).

Most of the well-known communications service providers across the globe rely upon the mobile, optical, business and services solutions offered by it, enabling them to gain revenue, cut down expenses and optimize networks.

Installable anywhere, the new Tellabs 100 Series Mini Optical Network Terminals can be mounted in a standard wall outlet and cubicle raceway as well.

These devices can be placed over office walls, free up desktop space and save costs of LAN deployment.

The new Mini ONTs by Tellabs can be used without extensive cabling and don’t need to be installed on or under desks, protecting them against damage or theft. Reducing the space requirement within the communication closet, the ONTs save enterprises from using the cumbersome fiber jumpers and desk or wall mounts.

As the devices are remotely powered from the communications closet, no power or battery backup is needed at the desktop to run them, further reducing overall deployment costs.

All voice, video and data services are provided through a single fiber by the Mini ONTs by Tellabs, wherein the solution delivers Tellabs All-Secure PON for high security to the enterprises.

“Tellabs Optical LAN saves government and enterprise customers money, energy and space. The new Tellabs Mini ONT makes Optical LAN even better because it fits in your hand, yet offers cutting-edge enterprise ONT features,” commented Dan Kelly, acting president and chief executive officer at Tellabs. “Our new Mini ONTs install in a wall outlet, which enterprises are used to. Still, they deliver all the cost, efficiency and security advantages of Optical LAN.”

Leveraging a standard single gang form-factor, the Tellabs 122W ONT installs in office walls to offer two Gigabit Ethernet interfaces with Power-over-Ethernet to the user. Tellabs 122C ONT can also be deployed within standard cubicle raceways with the same interfaces and feature set as the previous version.

In August 2012, Tellabs, Inc. (News - Alert) announced that Banco Mercantil do Brasil SA has selected its equipment to support the upgrade and expansion of its independent network.
