With the broadband industry seemingly in a mood to migrate to an all-IP environment, the well-known optical access solution provider for cable operators, Aurora Networks, is committed to enabling operators to accommodate ever-growing capacity needs by providing them with optimized, next-generation solutions.
To this end, the company recently expanded its Fiber-to-the-Premises (FTTP) solution portfolio, introducing new PON optical network terminals.
Aurora Networks’ extensive FTTP portfolio now includes RFoG, RFPON, Node PON, Trident7 chassis-based solutions and a comprehensive selection of solution-optimized ONTs.
The enhancement is expected to enable service providers to cost-effectively deliver all optical IP Ethernet-based services to residential or commercial customers, Aurora Networks claimed in a statement.
Aurora Networks’ new PON ONTs include:
- ONT-G4021-RTN-FRU-C, designed for outdoor deployment and rounding out the current GPON ONT portfolio
- Four 1000Base-T, two POTs and one RF port and special functionality to simplify set-top box RF return transport
- ONT-E4021i-RTN, EPON ONT, designed for indoor deployment and featuring four 1000Base-T, two POTs and one RF port plus Residential Gateway (News - Alert) feature and special functionality to simplify set-top box RF return transport
- ONT-E2424F, EPON ONT, ideal for deployment in Multi-Dwelling Units (MDU) and businesses
- 24x100Base-T and 24 POTs ports
In addition, Aurora Networks’ service provisioning and management platform addresses fault management, configuration, network performance, security and accounting functions, and ensures that service providers have the best combination of affordability, ease of use, reliability and quality of service.

Recognizing the industry's continued push to migrate to an all-IP network and dedicated to the evolution of cable, the company examined the challenges associated with this trend and analyzed the benefits of different architectures, and finally recommended Digital HFC (Hybrid Fiber Coax) architecture as an optimal solution for cable operators.
