ECI Telecom (News - Alert), a global provider of next-generation network solutions, and RCS & RDS, the leading cable operator in Romania, recently announced the deployment of 100G channels over its current networks.
These channels have been deployed with Apollo, ECI’s next-generation Optimized Multi-Layer Transport (OMLT) platform.
With Apollo, RCS & RDS has proved the future of its network and is now ready to support advanced and bandwidth-hungry services and applications in Romania.
RCS & RDS is one of the biggest telecommunication operators in South-Eastern Europe. It provides services in Romania, Serbia, Spain, Hungary, Slovakia, Italy, Czech Republic and Croatia, and is the largest satellite and cable television company in Romania.
The firm offers quad-play (video, voice, data and mobile) services to over four million subscribers nationwide.
Founded in 1961, ECI is an Israel-based company that has consistently delivered customer-focused networking solutions to the biggest carriers. The company delivers innovative communications platforms and solutions which enable users to rapidly deploy revenue generating services in a cost-effective way.
It has an extensive network of installed XDM and BG platforms as well.
ECI and RCS & RDS have been together for over 10 years and ECI has been supplying multiservice provisioning and optical equipment to RCS & RDS.
The upgrade from 10G to 100G capabilities has increased the network capacity of RCS & RDS tenfold. The 100G channels, with minimal changes in the network, cover about 700 Km from Oradea to Bucharest. Core routers between Orradea and Bucharest are connected with the 100G DWDM network over the Apollo transport solution.
The deployment is managed by ECI’s LightSoft Network Management System, and simplifies operations and cuts training and personnel expenses for RCS & RDS.
Valentin Popoviciu, development manager for RCS & RDS, explained that the ability to implement 100G in their current network was a confirmation of their continuous effort to invest in cutting-edge communications solutions. For more than 10 years, ECI has been an innovative and experienced strategic partner that helped them provide their customers with exceptional services.
Popoviciu went on add that the move to 100G will enable RCS & RDS to better meet the needs of its customer base by quickly reacting to current and future bandwidth demands and reliably offering the highest capacity services available on the market today, as well as the ability to approach new markets.
Yoav Gazelle, head of sales and marketing for Europe and Americas at ECI Telecom, said this new 100G network enables the company to remain competitive and offer the latest next-generation services and applications to its customers, without major investments in capex or opex.
