XO Communications (News - Alert) has been expanding its infrastructure on an international basis to keep pace with the increasing demands of its enterprise and wholesale customers and the recent foray into Toronto is in keeping with this commitment.

It has expanded its fiber network into the largest telecommunications facility in Canada located at 151 Front Street West in Toronto, and is expected to offer wholesale and enterprise network services at speeds up to 10 Gbps in Toronto, said company officials.

As a result of its entry into Toronto, XO Communications will be connected to over a dozen major data center collocation facilities through its partner Cologix, which reportedly connects to more than 150 telecommunications companies.

Considered as the largest network hub in Canada and a major hub in North America, XO will provide high-capacity network services through a Canadian subsidiary to serve finance, high-tech, media and telecommunications industries on both sides of the border.

It will deliver network service to more than 50 countries, five international nodes in Toronto and other major cities over a fully diverse 550-mile Toronto metro and Canadian long-haul fiber network connecting back to the U.S. at multiple locations.

Its international service capabilities will also include global MPLS IP-VPN partner connectivity, a presence at major subsea cable landing stations and international gateways in the U.S.

With more than 1.6 million fiber miles, 9,000 network miles and 4,000 on-net buildings, XO Communications also operates one of the largest IP networks in the U.S. and globally.

"Our expansion into Canada will enable XO to provide high-capacity network services to better serve businesses like these on both sides of the border, whether they need connectivity in Toronto or high-speed access to markets in the U.S," said Don MacNeil, chief marketing officer at XO Communications.

XO Communications recently announced that it has implemented the maiden coast-to-coast 100Gbps network with assistance from Equinix (News - Alert) Inc,. XO Communications has advantageously utilized Equinix International Business Exchange data centers across the United States for the delivery of 100G services.
