It was a busy week in the Dark Fiber sector. Here are some of the major stories from TMCnet.
Sea Fiber Networks, a sub-sea telecom provider and operator of CeltixConnect (a European sub-sea telecoms network), has launched its new Staffordshire Gateway (News - Alert). This new Dublin-to-London U.K. route meets demands for capacity and low latency created by digital services and online gaming industries.
In another story, Cbeyond selected BTI's Ethernet business services and metro-packet optical networking solutions to provide services to small and medium-sized businesses (SMB) on its high-speed dedicated network. The company is providing service management software and packet optical platforms to fuel Cbeyond’s (News - Alert) current and future expansion.
Cbeyond is a provider of technology services to companies in 60 countries.
In another story, TMCnet reported that Telx, a provider of global interconnectivity, cloud enablement services and data center solutions, has constructed an ultra-low-latency fiber into the company’s facilities in Clifton, N.J. Customers will be able to achieve low-latency connectivity to financial exchanges with the new construction.
In still another story, Cyan – a supplier of software-defined metro network solutions – has introduced upgrades to its Z-Series platform and G.709 optical transport network (OTN) switch fabric that improves the economics for router bypass in metro software-defined networks (SDN). Some of the upgrades to the Z-Series platform include a new Cyan XC-2800; a multi-terabit packet; and G.709 OTN switch fabric for the Z-Series packet-optical transport platforms (P-OTP), which enables up to 2.8 Tbps of packet switching and cross-connect capacity per shelf.
And QLogic’s 3200 Series intelligent Ethernet adapters are providing improved networking performance and dual-port throughput that is equal to 40Gbps. The adapters are designed for use in virtualized environments. Also, the new QLogic dual-port QLE3242-RJ offers support for SR optics, LR optics, twinaxial (twinax) copper and twisted pair cabling.
