RFMD Showcases New Multiple GaN-Based Amplifiers for Cable Applications

RF Micro Devices (News - Alert), Inc. (RFMD), a provider of high-performance radio frequency components and compound semiconductor technologies – is showcasing its new GaN-based CATV amplifiers at an event.

The newly unveiled multiple leading-edge GaN-based CATV amplifiers include - the RFPD2940 high-power GaN-based CATV power-doubler amplifier; and a new family of GaN-based push-pull CATV amplifiers, which is led by the RFPP2870 and RFCM3080.

Available for immediate sampling, the new RFPD2940 GaN-based CATV power-doubler amplifier offers high output power of +63dBmV without compromising the critical linearity performance requirements of CATV applications.

Operating from 45MHz to 1000MHz, the new RFPD2940 allows CATV network operators to upgrade existing systems to wider bandwidths, thereby facilitating for higher data throughput while also reducing operating expenses.

In addition, the new RFPD2940 CATV power-doubler amplifier also has 23dB gain at 1000MHz and also features superior input and output return loss of -20dB. It also delivers better than -73dB CTB, CSO performance, good return loss performance, extremely low distortion, and optimal reliability.

The new family of GaN-based push-pull CATV amplifiers, which includes the RFPP2870 and the RFCM3080, are designed to drive GaN-based final stage CATV power-doubler amplifiers.

The RFPP2870 is a hybrid push pull amplifier module employing GaAs MESFET, GaAs pHEMT and GaN HEMT die and is operated from 40MHz. It operates at 270mA Max. at 24VDC.

The RFCM3080 is a push pull amplifier SMD module employing GaAs MESFET, GaAs pHEMT, and GaN HEMT die and is operated from 40MHz to 1003MHz. Its DC current can be externally adjusted for optimum distortion performance versus power consumption over a wide range of output levels.

Featuring 28dB gain at 1003MHz, both the RFPP2870 and RFCM3080 GaN-based push-pull CATV amplifiers feature excellent input and output return loss at -20dB typical and also delivers low distortion levels of -68dBc CTB and -75dBc CSO.

As an ISO 9001-, ISO 14001-, and ISO/TS 16949-certified manufacturer, RFMD (News - Alert) has housed: the RFPD2940 in an industry-standard SOT-115J package; the RFPP2870 in an industry-standard SOT-115 package; and the RFCM3080 in a miniature 11mm x 8.5mm multi-chip-module (MCM) surface mount package.

RFMD’s new portfolio of wired broadband components utilizes the company’s multi-chip-module (MCM) integration capabilities and broad access to all key process technologies to enable high performance for CATV, optical access, fiber-optic, and other applications.
