It was a busy week in the Dark Fiber sector. Here are some of the major stories from TMCnet.

Cirex, a Russian-based communications service provider, has connected IXcellerate's Tier 3 Moscow One data center to its dedicated fiber network. Phase I construction of IXcellerate’s 6,200 square-meter data center is on schedule, with load testing due in November.

In another story, Great Lakes Data Systems has integrated its WinCable subscriber management and billing system with Huawei’s (News - Alert) U2000 NMS. The solution will be deployed by the Wananchi Group in Kenya. It provides delivery control of voice, video and data services, directly from the billing system.

TMCnet also reported that Zayo Group will acquire First Telecom Services for $110 million. The Zayo Group (News - Alert) provides fiber-based bandwidth infrastructure and network-neutral colocation and interconnection services. First Telecom Services is a provider of bandwidth infrastructure services across the Northeastern and Midwestern United States.

In another report, Infinera and  Interoute recently announced the introduction of Interoute's 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) services, which are based on Infinera’s (News - Alert) DTN platform. Infinera specializes in digital optical networks, and owns the largest cloud services platform across Europe. Interoute first used Infinera’s DTN platform four years ago to support its pan-European network.

And in another article, TMCnet reported that fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) remains popular. The DigiWorld Institute found that the number of FTTH/B subscribers during the first half of 2012 was “solid.” Europe reported a 16.4-percent increase, to 5.95 million, in FTTH/B subscribers, while coverage also grew by 16 percent.
