Last week, a major provider of digital optical networks, Infinera (News - Alert), and Cyprus Telecommunications Authority (Cyta) announced the deployment of Infinera's DTN-X platform. Interconnecting Asia and Africa to Europe, Infinera's DTN-X platform features 500 Gigabit per second (Gb/s) long-haul super-channels, across the TE-North Cable System.

Due to the scalability, efficiency, simplicity and reliability the solution delivers to its network, Cyta selected the DTN-X platform to deliver commercial services to its customers. In Cyprus, Cyta is the leading telecommunications provider. Ranging from fixed and mobile telephony to Internet service provision and broadband applications, it provides a full spectrum of electronic communications services.

Cyta operates and maintains the ALEXANDROS subsystem, part of Telecom Egypt's TE-North Cable System which stretches 3,600 kilometers connecting Abu Talat, Egypt to Marseilles, France, with a branch to Pentaskhinos, Cyprus.

In order to serve global operators who rely on Cyta to offer services in the Middle East, Asia and Africa region, the deployment of Infinera's DTN-X platform will provide the ability to upgrade TE North's terrestrial network in the future, as well as allow Cyta to add additional capacity to the ALEXANDROS subsystem.
