The newly unveiled Infinera (News - Alert) Instant Bandwith on the DTN-X platform can be used by network operators to implement bandwidth in 100G increments. The new solution also enables shortened provision times and faster service delivery which delivers service providers with the chance to differentiate their services.
According to the company, the Infinera DTN-X P-OTN platform brings scale, simplicity and efficiency of the digital optical network into the terabit age. Using large scale Photonic Integrated Circuits (PIC), built-in OTN switch with 1Gb/s granularity and GMPLS based network intelligence that enables dynamically protected mesh networks, the platform can offer the next step function in optical networking.
The Instant Bandwidth said to be the first software-activated 100G bandwidth delivery solution has the ability to let operators to deploy 100G increments enabling easy on-demand bandwidth provisioning and minimize operational expenses.
TeliaSonera (News - Alert) International Carrier (TSIC) became the first company to install the Infinera DTN-X platform with Instant Bandwidth in its nationwide 100G network and the company can leverage the platform’s one click software control to realize 100G transport capacity and quickly deploy newer services seamlessly to its customers.
Dave Welch, Infinera co-founder, executive vice president and chief strategy officer commented, “Instant Bandwidth on the DTN-X creates more opportunities for our customers to win by using time as a weapon to compete and respond to increasingly variable demands to flexibly grow and manage network capacity. Software activated bandwidth changes the business model and the economics of transport networking, accelerating time to revenue for operators while boosting their competitiveness.”
Instant Bandwidth supposedly blends new hardware, software and operational innovation from Infinera and the technologies integrated into the new solution helps users in realizing a flexible infrastructure bandwidth along with better wavelength utilization and fewer fiber connections, less space and power and even lesser operational costs. Also the solution’s success-based business approach allows operators to rapidly deploy capacity as customer demand arises and differentiate their offering in a highly competitive market.
