The Keystone Initiative for Network Based Education and Research recently announced that it is developing a broadband network across Pennsylvania. KINBER has initially included One Source Networks (News - Alert), or OSN, in its nominated provider inventory for last mile connectivity. High bandwidth networking services are offered by KINBER in association with 38 other state research networks nationwide to assist local economic development.

OSN is a carrier neutral provider of last mile access. OSN has the capability to plan, source, deploy and administer last-mile access from all accessible providers in Pennsylvania in an efficient and economical manner. Majority of KINBER members' requirements across the commonwealth are offered access options and safe competitive costing through OSN’s at least 23,000 on-net and carrier exclusive areas in Pennsylvania.

In a statement, Bruce M. Taggart, Ph.D., Chair, KINBER Board of Directors and Vice Provost for Library and Technology Services, Lehigh University said, "OSN has an excellent reputation for service and shares our dedication to providing access to high speed networking in unserved and underserved regions in Pennsylvania."

According to Ernest Cunningham, CEO, OSN, the organization is privileged to be chosen as the nominated provider of last mile access to the KINBER network. The organization is devoted to not only offering best quality services and offerings, but also following the customer-centric ideology. This commitment is bound to help KINBER members.

Several potentials like commodity Internet and high-definition video conferencing are facilitated by KINBER's high-speed broadband network, Pennsylvania Research and Education Network, or PennREN. After the launch of PennREN, an assortment of services like dark fiber services, metro Ethernet service and optical transport services across PennREN are being offered by KINBER to its associates. KINBER's associate organizations are directly connected to PennREN by "last mile" providers.

Jeff Reel, CEO and executive director, KINBER said, "KINBER member organizations have asked how they can connect to PennREN and experience the benefits of broadband. With access to over 200 carriers, OSN offers our members easy implementation of last mile options that will meet their needs and reflect the best pricing available." Now that the operations have already been incorporated, any KINBER team member can offer last mile services.
