In its November 16, 2012, edition of Optical Transport Report, Dell'Oro Group identified Infinera (News - Alert) as the new leader of global long-haul 100G market. Infinera, a manufacturer of high capacity optical transmission equipment for the service provider market, has been awarded the top slot in the long-haul 100G category for the third quarter of 2012.
The long-haul 100G wavelength market is measured by the number of long-haul 100G ports sold and according to the report, Infinera accounts for 38 percent of the long-haul 100G ports sold in the third quarter of 2012. Infinera accounts for 22 percent of all long-haul 100G ports sold since the long-haul 100G market emerged in 2010, the report added.
Much of Infinera’s success can be attributed to the company’s new DTN-X platform. Targeted at the global network operators, the platform has been designed to enable operators to address the increasing bandwidth demands driven by video, high speed data and cloud-based services. Integrating five Terabits of OTN switching capacity with 100G transport capacity, the DTN-X makes an ideal solution for these network operators.
The Dell' (News - Alert)Oro Group forecasts the global 100G dense wavelength division multiplexing market to grow at greater than 120 percent each year for the next five years.
And according to Infinera, its DTN-X can be used for the most efficient 100G wavelength deployment. It delivers the industry’s only commercially available 500G long-haul super-channels, which in turn enable operators to scale transport capacity without scaling operational complexity, thereby lowering total cost of ownership for multi-Terabit transport networks.
Infinera recently reported that its DTN-X platform has experienced strong traction in the global market. Customers include Cable&Wireless Worldwide, PIPE Networks, Telefonica International Wholesale Services, TeliaSonera (News - Alert) International Carrier and DANTE for the GÉANT pan-European Research Network.
In other news, Infinera announced the availability of Infinera Instant Bandwidth on the DTN-X platform. Instant Bandwidth allows network operators to rapidly deploy bandwidth in 100 Gigabits per second (100G) increments without the typical long wait times associated with provisioning equipment, as well as engineering and activating services.
