Infinera (News - Alert), in association with Colt Technology Services, has unveiled 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) services for Infinera clients. In order to offer these services, the Infinera DTN platform will be utilized over the long distance network of Colt.

By merging 20 Colt carrier-neutral data centers and an extremely scalable long distance network, Colt has been able to provide 100GbE services across its exclusive infrastructure. Colt’s long distance network connects key business arenas in Europe with 39 metropolitan area networks and 18,000 directly connected buildings.

Colt has taken into account the requirements of the customers and has accordingly extended its data center and network infrastructure. Colt has been able to extend its network capabilities in a proficient manner with the help of Infinera’s DTN platform. Wholesale carriers and enterprise customers in the finance and media arenas have been urging for high bandwidth scalable Ethernet services. Colt will now be able to offer these services by incorporating Infinera's DTN platform capability into its long distance network.

In a statement, Luke Broome, chief technology officer at Colt said, "As the company continues to transform from a traditional B2B telecoms operator to a provider of integrated IT and network services, enhancing our Ethernet services capabilities is key to delivering an end to end service experience that matches our customer's agenda. Our use of the Infinera DTN to deliver 100GbE services on our long distance network will support customers with the highest performance demands in achieving their business priorities."

Colt provides straightforward and scalable operations by the Infinera DTN platform, which has been developed using photonic integrated circuits or PICs. Colt can now use small-sized equipment by implementing a PIC-based offering, resulting in decreased utilization of power, lower expenses and enhanced dependability. Colt is therefore able to operate an extremely versatile long-haul optical network at considerably lower initial investments and operational costs.

Chris Champion, vice president of EMEA Sales at Infinera said, "Colt plays an integral role in providing critical network and IT services throughout Europe. We are pleased that Colt has chosen us to deliver high speed optical Ethernet services to their customers."
