Cyan recently announced that its Z-Series packet-optical transport platforms (P-OTPs) will be used by Great Plains Communications for a new 615-mile fiber route between Omaha to Denver. Cyan's software-defined network (SDN) system, which is driven by its Blue Plant software, will help Great Plains quickly provide data center operators, local businesses and cellular providers with new wavelength and Ethernet services at affordable prices.
In a statement, John Greene, chief network engineer at Great Plains, said that, "The addition of this route to our fiber backbone is extremely important, especially for our data center customers with growing bandwidth and strict SLA requirements. Not only do we get needed redundancy within our Nebraska footprint, we also have the opportunity to offer our business customer’s connectivity to Denver at affordable rates. While the Cyan Z-Series gives us the capacity and flexibility we need, Blue Planet software is what really makes the difference. With Blue Planet we have a lot more confidence that what we design is what we will get and what our customers will actually experience."
The new fiber route will be supported with redundant Cyan Z-Series P-OTPs and will ensure delivery of services optimized with advanced latency features. Cyan's Blue Planet software includes a number of design and operations apps that will help Great Plains drive SLA compliance in a cost-effective manner. Additionally, Blue Planet apps make it easy for Great Plains customers to benefit from real-time visibility into their services performance.
Cyan co-founder and CMO Eric Clelland, said that, "Great Plains Communications is providing strategic bandwidth access alternatives to the heartland. With data centers being opened and expanded throughout the region, adding capacity to and between them becomes critical to furthering the growth of cloud-based applications and storage.
