Equinix (News - Alert), a provider of carrier-neutral data centers and Internet exchanges, has opened an international business exchange (IBX) data center in Dubai, establishing the company's presence in the Middle East. 

United Arab Emirates-based telecom operator, du and Equinix, will collaborate to offer seamless interconnection and colocation services to cloud service providers, financial services providers, content providers and enterprises via the carrier-neutral data center.

Officials revealed that the new data center will host 650 cabinets and is located in an area covering 44,000 square feet. By January 1, 2013, the first phase is expected to be fully operational.

The Equinix IBX data center ensures operational expertise, standards compliance and physical security to safeguard a client’s valuable information.

All Equinix IBX data centers are equipped with full UPS power, backup systems, and N+1 (or greater) redundancy, with a maximum uptime record.

The data centers provide high power density and are supported by robust heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Equinix IBX data centers leverage security equipment, techniques and procedures to control, monitor and record access to the facility – including individual cages.

The IBXflex Space in the IBX data centers offer operations centers and storage space when required, while the Equinix Smart Hands delivers 24-hour access to qualified technical support, ensuring the continuation of all mission-critical operations.

The local clients of Equinix and du will benefit from better connectivity to traders located globally, owing to the Equinix IBX data center in Dubai. The Middle East is witnessing rapid growth and has huge business potential, necessitating data center services covering the region.

Cisco (News - Alert) Systems, Inc. (CSCO) published a study report which highlights that cloud traffic in the Middle East and Africa will experience a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 79 percent until 2016.

Equinix will be installing more of its IBX data centers across the globe – an expansion that will lead to high network density to support rising demand.

Recently, Equinix announced the opening of phase two of Sydney’s SY3 International Business Exchange data centers. The new facility increases the company’s capacity by 22,927 square feet in Australia.
