Hurricane Electric (News - Alert), a global Internet service provider offering IPv4 and IPv6 services, plus data center services in Fremont, California, is continuing its European expansion with new points-of-presence at MIX in Milano, Italy and Interxion (News - Alert) in Vienna, Austria.

In a statement, Mike Leber, president of Hurricane Electric, indicated that Hurricane Electric is thrilled with the rapid expansion of its global network and is committed to providing unsurpassed next-generation IP connectivity to its clients and peers around the world.

Leber also emphasized that the expansion to these new locations will allow customers of MIX and Interxion to tap into the bandwidth and reach of Hurricane Electric's rich global network.

The new European connections is Hurricane Electric's fourth European expansion in 2012 and is believed to enable Hurricane Electric to improve fault tolerance, load balancing and congestion management in its IP connectivity services, which includes transit of next-generation IPv6 traffic.

The new points-of-presence will expand access through 10 gigabit Ethernet, 1 gigabit Ethernet and100BaseT network connections, and will reduce latency and router hops for MIX and Interxion traffic, according to the company.

Hurricane Electric is connected to nearly 59 major exchange points and exchanges traffic directly with more than 2,400 different networks. Employing a resilient fiber-optic topology, Hurricane Electric has no less than four redundant paths crossing North America, two separate paths between the U.S. and Europe, and rings in Europe and Asia.

In addition to its vast global network, Hurricane Electric owns and operates two data centers in Fremont, California. The company offers IPv4 and IPv6 transit solutions over the same connection at speeds exceeding 10 Gbps.

Recently, Hurricane Electric expanded its network with a new Point of Presence at C7 Data Centers, located at 179 Social Hall Avenue in Salt Lake City, Utah.

A company statement clarified that the Salt Lake City expansion will allow customers of C7 Data Centers to benefit from Hurricane Electric's vast global network.
