Clearfield (News - Alert), Inc. recently announced that it has already shipped more than six million fiber ports in its five year history. Of these, nearly two million ports were shipped in the last year alone. Clearfield is a developer and distributor of fiber optic management products for communications networks.

In a statement, Cheri Beranek, Clearfield president and CEO, said that, "Serving the rural telephone marketplace has been paramount to Clearfield's early success. With hundreds of small companies across the country, we have the great fortune of serving a very broad market."

West central Illinois-based McDonough Telephone Cooperative, which has 12 exchanges and serves 20 communities, is a client of Clearfield. To ensure that its 3,700 member-base can easily access leading-edge performance, McDonough has been developing a fiber to home network incorporating Clearfield's FieldSmart FxHD high density fiber distribution frame.

Troy Friday, OSP manager for McDonough, said that, "We've used Clearfield throughout our deployment. When we made the decision to use Clearfield over the competition, we knew performance of the terminated fiber end would always be stellar. Throughout the deployment, we've had access to Clearfield engineers which has been an added bonus. This latest product builds on the modularity of the platform and that keeps our operating costs in check."

Minford Telephone Company is also another client which has deployed Clearfield’s fiber optic management products. Farmers within the rural regions of southern Ohio have been selling off portions of their acreage which will now be developed into new residential or business areas. Minford Telephone is keen on providing these upcoming areas with fiber optic service. The company approached Clearfield to help them with this project.  

Minford is also keen on providing IPTV (News - Alert) signal coverage for their service area for which it used Clearfield’s products. The FieldSmart FxDS Frame, featuring a PON Insert, easily fit into the small space tower building which is placed next to the antenna equipment.
