Infinera (News - Alert), a provider of Digital Optical Networks, recently announced that its DTN-X platform has been selected by CenturyLink, Inc., a provider of Internet, TV and phone services.
By deploying DTN-X to its transport network, CenturyLink will be able to support critical video, mobile and cloud IP services, and extend its ability to deliver up to 100 Gigabit Ethernet services.
"We evaluated the available 100G solutions for long haul optical transport and the DTN-X platform stood out," said Matt Beal, CenturyLink senior vice president of corporate strategy and product development, and chief technology officer. "Our experience with the Infinera DTN platform has demonstrated a system based on quality, ease of use, proven technology and reliability.”
“As a customer since 2004,” he said, “we look forward to including the DTN-X as part of our next generation network and achieving the same positive results as we have in the past."
The Infinera DTN-X P-OTN platform brings scale, simplicity and efficiency of the digital optical network into the terabit age. Featuring large-scale Photonic Integrated Circuits (PIC), built-in OTN (ITU G.709) switch with 1Gb/s granularity and GMPLS-based network intelligence that enables dynamically protected mesh networks, the DTN-X delivers the next step in optical networking.
The DTN-X was designed with investment protection in mind, including programmable coherent technology so operators can optimize their fiber assets, scaling to 5 Tb/s per bay today and 1 Tb/s of slot capacity – allowing 10 Tb/s per bay and 100Tb/s in a multi-bay configuration in the future.
"I am delighted to announce the continuation of the long-term relationship between CenturyLink and Infinera," said Tom Fallon, Infinera CEO. "CenturyLink's selection of the DTN-X platform underscores the value of our optical transport solution for Tier-1 operators around the world. As operators upgrade existing networks to 100G or deploy new 100G networks, the DTN-X uniquely delivers the scale and efficiency required at the core of the world's largest optical networks."
