Portugal-based UPSTAR Comunicacoes is set to receive advanced multiplexing, conversion and management equipment for its long-haul optical fiber transport from Nevion (News - Alert), a provider of solutions to move, manage and monetize video content.
UPSTAR Comunicacoes was in need of a solution that could help it transfer over 100 SD and approximately 30 uncompressed HD signals over dark fiber from central Lisbon to Vendas Novas, which is over 100km.
Nevion’s Flashlink solutions were implemented to carry those signals in a single fiber without any amplification.
The Nevion solution implemented by UPSTAR will have multiple 4-channel SD-SDI/DVB-ASI time division de-multiplexers with 40-channel DWDM and numerous conversion modules that will aid in the process of carrying uncompressed signals over the entire distance.
Luis Henriques, technical director at UPSTAR, said, “Flashlink modules combine advanced DWDM (dense wavelength division multiplexing) and TDM (time-division multiplexing) to enable us to transmit a combination of HD and SD signals over a single fiber, while leaving room for additional wavelengths and significantly reducing our costs. Flashlink’s reliability, low-power and low-maintenance design were also key factors in our decision to choose Nevion.”
Nevion’s Flashlink transport system family offers solutions ranging from simple CWDM/DWDM point-to-point links to nationwide optical links, along with means for signal processing including format conversion, frame synchronizers, embedders/de-embedders, couplers, up/down/cross-converters, optical and distribution amplifiers.
Notable features of Flashlink solutions are: ultra-low power, compact form factors and high reliability for broadcast environments; lightest 2RU frame available; reduced power consumption by 20 to 50 percent; fan-free environment, removing the need for maintenance and increase in reliability; and more.
Recently, Nevion unveiled enhanced VideoIPath managed video services platform at NAB and provided Flashlink solutions to New Century Productions.
