MRV (News - Alert) Communications Inc., a provider of optical communications network infrastructure equipment and integration and managed services, recently announced that its OptiSwitch 900 Carrier Ethernet Demarcation Portfolio has won the 2012 Carrier Ethernet APAC Award in the Best Carrier Ethernet Demarcation Product category.
The portfolio was also chosen as a finalist in the Best Carrier Cloud Access and Cloud Infrastructure Solution category.
A compact carrier-class Ethernet Demarcation service unit, the OptiSwitch 900 enables premium manageable Ethernet services with extensive traffic management and end-to-end control for Service level conformance. The OS900 series acts as a demarcation device at the customer premises, and is owned by the service provider. It provides a carrier-to-customer User/Network Interface (UNI) that separates the carrier's WAN from the customer's LAN.
The OS900 enables bandwidth limiting, security and monitoring of customer and network interfaces with clear visibility of LAN and WAN segments.
For inter-provider demarcation points, the OS900 serves as a demarcation device at the carrier-to-carrier on-net locations, and provides Network/Network interfaces (NNI) that separate two different service provider networks.
In such an application, the OS900 Series enables Ethernet service delivery over multiple carrier transport networks with end-to-end visibility and control.
"MRV Communications (News - Alert) has an outstanding Carrier Ethernet heritage of over 13 years, built on its reputation for innovation and technical expertise. The Carrier Ethernet APAC Award recognition demonstrates MRV's commitment to delivering quality solutions that give our customers the confidence to build a better – and broader – network," said Dave Stehlin, president for MRV's Optical Communications Systems (News - Alert) division. "Tier 1 carriers and service providers around the world are utilizing the OptiSwitch portfolio to more efficiently create and ensure the Carrier Ethernet services that their customers demand while maximizing investments and revenue."
Meanwhile, MRV’s Optical Communications Systems (OCS) have expanded their OptiSwitch carrier Ethernet access portfolio to now encompass MPLS connectivity. In fact, the complete demarcation-to-aggregation solution now includes the OptiSwitch 906G and OptiSwitch 9244-1210G models.
With inherent flexibility, the OptiSwitch 906G can address a wide range of deployment scenarios.
