The NFC Forum (News - Alert) has signed collaboration agreements with three industry consortia to promote the adoption of Near Field Communication (NFC) technology.
The collaborations are made with Global Certification Forum, International Air Transport Association, and Wi-Fi Alliance (News - Alert).
The agreements will also further the reach and impact of this technology in mobile and Wi-Fi communications, and in other key markets and industries.
The NFC Forum is a not-for-profit industry association, dedicated to promoting the use of NFC technology. Collaboration with these three industry consortia will include work on mobile testing, global interoperability and market education.
“These new agreements with Global Certification Forum (GCF), the International Air Transport Association (IATA), and the Wi-Fi Alliance will expedite the availability and use of more globally interoperable NFC-enabled solutions,” said Koichi Tagawa, chairman of the NFC Forum. “We look forward to sharing long and productive partnerships with these organizations.”
NFC will work with GCF to identify certification requirements that influence NFC-enabled 3rd-Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) wireless devices embedding NFC and 3GPP technologies.
With IATA, the NFC Forum will work to increase awareness in the market, and build the ecosystem for NFC. Both partners will also collaborate on outreach programs such as workshops for airlines and webcasts.
The Wi-Fi Alliance and the NFC Forum will exchange approved documents and share information about program schedules. They will also collaborate on shared marketing material.
"We are pleased to collaborate more closely with the NFC Forum under the terms of our liaison agreement," said Wi-Fi Alliance president and CEO, Edgar Figueroa (News - Alert). "Coordination between our organizations will help deliver a good user experience and exciting new applications of our technologies."
The NFC Forum was in the news last year for publishing the NFC Controller Interface (NCI) specification, available to the public for download at no charge.
