EXFO (News - Alert), Inc. has entered into a strategic collaboration with Sumitomo Electric Industries (SEI), wherein with the signed contract between the two organizations, EXFO’s FG-750 Node iOLM is now completely competent with Sumitomo's reflective termination filter technology.

Both organizations will also advantageously utilize their individual FTTH test and diagnosis expertise in sophisticated optical-line testing and tracking applications.

FG-750 Node iOLM is an OTDR-based remote test unit for computerized FTTH fault management that was introduced by EXFO in September 2012. The unit has been designed for in-service, end-to-end testing, tracking and troubleshooting of PON topologies from the central office. Point-to-multipoint fibers can be tested by the FG-750.

The device can also run downstream tests from the node or central office to any passive optical network line type. Operators are therefore offered a computerized, operation-oriented method of evaluating the health of their FTTH networks.

Also as part of the agreement, EXFO's FG-750 Node iOLM is now completely compatible with the reflective termination filters from SEI that depend on the organization’s established FTTH component and subsystem technology. The major tier-1 customers will now be offered the finest of core technologies and IP proficiency from the two organizations.

The association will also help the organizations to expand their market presence in FTTH-linked optical-line testing and tracking.

Sumitomo's reflective termination filters have a very strong track record in testing, on-demand diagnosis and monitoring applications, and have already attained maturity in terms of manufacturing volume.”

“They bring a key aspect of cost-efficiency to our FG-750 Node iOLM, in addition to ensuring that our solution is fully qualified for today's FTTH requirements," Gagnon said.
