New York based Sidera Networks (News - Alert), the telecommunications company that provides fiber optic-based network solutions to the healthcare, carrier, education, government, financial services, legal services and media industries, has been chosen by MetroCast (News - Alert), a leading provider of High Speed Internet, Digital Television, Digital Phone and Business Services, to upgrade and speed up its network connections.

At present Sidera Network provides multiple 10 Gb backbone connections to MetroCast, but will be changing it to 100 Gb transport connectivity. This will not only serve residential users but also Internet and business video users as well.

"A lot of the equipment vendors are moving in that direction where it shouldn't be that difficult to move between these different speeds. It should be no surprise that the content guys are very interested in 100 Gig technologies," he said. "It has a lot to do with the raw volume of data, so besides Research and Education and cable companies, the content guys are excited about this.”

Clint Heiden (News - Alert), president of Sidera Networks added that this was one of the significant announcements in the industry. He also said that Sidera, although known for its diverse and ultra-low latency networks, now have the facility to deliver any amount of capacity and meet the demands of the large network, content and video providers.

Sidera's network covers the entire mid-Atlantic and Northeast sectors. It offers low-latency connectivity with high bandwidth to major international cities. Sidera is extending its 100G network and will be backhauling all consumer video and Internet, and its business service traffic of MetroCast, including Ethernet for the deployment.
