Infinera (News - Alert), a provider of digital optical networks, reportedly demonstrated 500 Gb/s super-channel transmission along with Russia’s central science and research telecommunications institute, FSUE ZNIIS.
The DTN-X trial with FSUE ZNIIS took place at ZNIIS’ Techno Park in Moscow, successfully demonstrating 8 Terabits per second (Tb/s) of DWDM capacity across 1,175 kilometers. Infinera asserted that it is the first ultra-long-haul lab trail in Russia, and the successful completion only showcases its ability to deliver scalable efficient and high-capacity optical networking solutions that cater to the requirements set by Russian service providers.
Chris Champion, vice president EMEA sales at Infinera remarked, “We are pleased to complete this trial with ZNIIS. The success of this demonstration is a milestone for Infinera. We demonstrated that our next generation DWDM optical networking solution, the Infinera DTN-X, is certified and available to the Russian market.”
According to Infinera, the DTX-N is a multi-terabit packet optical network platform that brings scale, simplicity and efficiency of the digital optical network into the terabit age. Featuring large-scale Photonic Integrated Circuits (PIC), built-in OTN (ITU G.709) switch with 1 Gb/s granularity and GMPLS-based network intelligence that enables dynamically protected mesh networks, the DTN-X delivers the next step of functionality in optical networking.

Notable features of DTN-X include FlexCoherent processor scales that transport capacity without scaling operational complexity; multi-terabit, non-blocking OTN cross connect; digital plug-n-play automation and + GMPLS intelligence; network convergence of DWDM, OTN and future MPLS switching; and bandwidth virtualization to ensure maximum usage of all available bandwidth.
