EXFO (News - Alert) Inc., a provider of next-generation test and service assurance solutions for wireline and wireless network operators and equipment manufacturers in the global telecommunications industry, has launched the FLS-2800 Benchtop ITLA Tunable Laser Source (News - Alert), a high-power, continuous wave (CW) laser unit with narrow linewidth and high-resolution tunability.

Officials with EXFO said that the FLS-2800 Benchtop ITLA Tunable Laser Source, which is currently available exclusively from EXFO, has been developed jointly with Coherent Solutions.

Coherent Solutions is a photonics technology company in New Zealand, specializing in R&D equipment in the fields of coherent modulation communication technologies and short laser pulse characterization.

Thanks to the FLS-2800 Benchtop ITLA Tunable Laser Source, researchers and engineers now have a cost-effective and versatile solution for various applications, including coherent/orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) transmission and WDM network emulation.

According to company officials, it is offered in single- or dual-laser configuration, with each laser being controlled independently. The front-panel knob allows the wavelength and power to be quickly and precisely adjusted.

Company officials said that the USB and Ethernet ports at the back of the FLS-2800 make it possible to remotely control the unit with the EXFO TLM application, which is also compatible with the IQS-2800.

Earlier in August, EXFO had announced the introduction of the IQS-610P-HS-400G solution. This high-speed testing offer builds on EXFO's new IQS 88100G Power Blazer module, and is the industry's only integrated 400G testing solution.

As carriers face ever-increasing needs for bandwidth and capacity due to the demands of high-speed triple-play services, data centers and higher-bandwidth residential broadband connections, system manufacturers are focusing their efforts on developing 400G to meet the growing need for speed. 400 Gbit/s is a vital stepping stone to reaching the ultimate 1 Tbit/s objective, and efficient 400G network implementation calls for thorough 400G testing.

EXFO's new IQS-610P-HS-400G test solution not only fills the 400 Gbit/s data pipe, it provides the flexibility to configure up to four 100 Gbit/s client interfaces simultaneously with full traffic profiling, shaping and monitoring capabilities.
