Infinera (News - Alert) and Telstra recently announced that both companies will work together to upgrade the Telstra network serving the Asia Pacific region. The inclusion of multiple ultra-long haul submarine cable routes to the Telstra (News - Alert) network will not only help in enhancing its capacity, but will also deliver increased scalability and reliability to important routes of the network. Telstra supplies an advanced range of managed network solutions and international data, voice, and satellite solutions to customers across the globe.

In a release, Darrin Webb, Chief Operating Officer for Telstra Global, said, "As a trusted network supplier, our job is to ensure we are adapting and creating capacity where it is required. Demand for network services in the Asia Pacific region is growing exponentially and the addition of Infinera's DTN-X platform means we will be well placed to meet the speed and capacity needs of our customers. We are continually developing our network to meet customers' requirements and this is just one of the projects we are working on to ensure our network is always growing, improving and providing world class services.”

The Infinera Intelligent Transport Network will make it easy for Telstra to quickly deploy 10G, 40G and 100G Ethernet and OTN services over - the 9,124 kilometer long Telstra Endeavour submarine cable which connects Sydney and Hawaii. The company will also be able to deploy these services over its Designated Fibre Pair on the Asia America Gateway (News - Alert) (AAG) submarine cable which connects Hawaii and California. Telstra will also be able to deploy these services over its Reach North Asia Loop (RNAL), which is 9,000 kilometers and connects Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and South Korea.

Dr. David Welch, Infinera CTO, Co-founder and president, said, "As global businesses turn to cloud-based offerings, we're seeing increasing demand for reliable, global connectivity. We are delighted to build on our existing relationship with Telstra Global to deploy an Intelligent Transport Network across these major submarine routes. With an Infinera Intelligent Network deployed across Endeavour, AAG and RNAL, Telstra can deploy highly reliable, differentiated services to their customers while reducing capital and operating costs through scale, multi-layer convergence and automation. Telstra Global's deployment is a great example of how long-haul super-channels with SD FEC are accelerating the pace of global communities."

The Infinera DTN-X delivers high scalability without compromising the ability to integrate future upgrades to terabit super-channels and Terabit Ethernet. The DTN-X integrates five Terabits of non-blocking OTN switching over the same platform thus providing optimized network utilization. The combination of intelligent software with a converged platform such as this effectively automates manual operations which helps in substantial operational costs reduction and speeds up service delivery.
