Even a little snow (OK, a LOT of snow!) couldn’t keep the Dark Fiber market down this week. Here are some highlights of what happened.

Interxion (News - Alert) Holding NV, a European provider of cloud and carrier-neutral colocation data center services, recently announced that it now has more than 500 connectivity providers, ensuring increased network redundancy and an improved end-user experience.

The providers, who peer directly with one another and also through one of the 19 Internet exchanges, make their services directly available from Interxion’s European data centers. These companies can provide their services to potential customers colocated with Interxion to generate revenues.

“Our customers need network solutions to interconnect in a flexible manner and to store and transfer content efficiently. The diverse range of services offered by these 500+ connectivity providers make our data centers ideal locations for customers to address their cloud, big data and mobility challenges,” said Mike Hollands, director of connectivity and mobile community, Interxion.

Elsewhere overseas, Israel recently got its first 100G Optical Network, made possible by using ECI’s Apollo packet-optical transport system. Israel’s telecommunications company Bezeq International (News - Alert) took up the task of deploying the 100G Optical Network, to cater the needs of its numerous large enterprise and business customers, who were demanding an increase in speed and capacity of the network, along with disaster recovery contingencies. The company has now established 100G optical links to aggregate ten channels of 10G over a single wavelength, including Ethernet, FC and SDH channels, providing an economical tenfold surge in network capacity.

Here in the U.S., tw telecom (News - Alert), provider of managed services, including Business Ethernet, converged and IP VPN solutions, announced the promotion of John T. Blount to President and Chief Operating Officer. Blount was appointed the Company’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) in 2005 and previously held positions of  Executive Vice President of Field Operations, Senior Vice President – Sales, Regional Vice President for the Midwest and Southwest Regions and Vice President and General Manager for the company's Milwaukee sales, service and operations office. "We are extremely pleased to name John as our new President and look forward to his continued leadership as we enter 2014 and beyond," said Larissa Herda, tw telecom Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "John has guided the Company's operations since 2005 as our Chief Operating Officer, during which time we have produced consistently strong performance.”
