Infinera recently announced the deployment of Infinera DTN-X platform across Windstream (News - Alert)'s long-haul express network. The DTN-X platform consists of single-card 500 Gbps FlexCoherent super-channels which will enable Windstream to scale their network, differentiate their service offerings, and offer investment protection. The new solution integrates Infinera Intelligent Transport Network’s 500 Gbps super-channel line system, DWDM optical transmission, future MPLS switching, and a 5 Tbps non-blocking OTN switching, all on a single platform. The FlexCoherent super-channels are based on Infinera's popular photonic integrated circuits (PICs). Infinera uses semiconductor technology to provide PICs, and leverages the PICs to deliver integrated optical networking solutions with 500 Gbps super-channels.
In a release, Randy Nicklas, executive VP of engineering and CTO, Windstream, said, "By deploying the Infinera Intelligent Transport Network, Windstream will significantly increase the capacity of our network infrastructure to meet the needs of our customers. The DTN-X platform enables us to offer services that result in lower latency for mission critical applications while providing a network that is even more reliable and enables rapid provisioning of services."
Infinera DTN-X consists of large scale PICs, built-in OTN switch with 1 Gbps granularity, and embedded GMPLS enabled network intelligence. DTN-X currently scales to 5 Tbps, and has been designed to support 100 Tbps multi-bay super-channels in the near future. This solution when combined with Infinera DTN-X enables plug and play automation of manual operations, consumption of less space and power without compromising on network ability, optimizes fiber assets, provides quicker service delivery, as well as reduces operational costs.
