Broadcom (News - Alert) has introduced a new triple speed 10/40/100G Lite physical layer transceiver (Lite-PHY) for high-density data center applications.

The BCM82322 Lite-PHY is fabricated in 28 nanometer (nm) CMOS technology, and is said to deliver the industry's highest port count density (12 full duplex ports).

Also, this newly released solution can reduce power up to 50 percent, and consumes less than 150mW per 10G full duplex port.

Broadcom is developing next-generation devices as it recognizes an increase in demand for 10/40/100G ports that drives the need for higher integration and lower power consumption.

"With the introduction of our latest 28nm triple speed Lite-PHY, Broadcom continues to demonstrate leadership in the PHY space and expand our industry-leading portfolio of 1/10/40/100G solutions," said Lorenzo Longo, Broadcom vice president and general manager of Physical Layer Products.

Other significant features of the BCM82322 Lite-PHY are the ability to deliver comprehensive PHY functionality; and simplification of board design for server and network equipment manufacturers.

Moreover, the solution offers seamless high-speed I/O routing to SFP+/QSFP+/CXP modules and to the host switch as well as reducing external components by ensuring integration of AC-coupling capacitors on the high speed receivers.

Broadcom provides semiconductor solutions for wired and wireless communications. The company was in the news earlier this year for signing a $147 million definitive agreement with high performance network infrastructure solutions supplier QLogic.

As per the agreement, QLogic acquired certain 10/40/100Gb Ethernet controller-related assets and non-exclusive licenses to certain intellectual property relating to Broadcom's programmable NetXtreme II Ethernet controller family.

Broadcom also recently teamed with Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) and Finnish operator Elisa (News - Alert) for a demonstration of LTE Advanced (LTE-A) carrier aggregation Category 6 (Cat 6) data rates of 300 Mbps on a live commercial network in the Nordic Countries.
