Engage Communication Assists Light Rail Network Replace SONET to 10G Ethernet

Since 1989, Engage Communication has been developing innovative products and solutions that help organizations across the globe deploy and operate reliable and secure communications.

The company was recently in the news for assisting a municipal transit authority to migrate from SONET to 10G Ethernet Connectivity.

The transit authority of a major city (name not disclosed) decided to replace its old SONET network with 10 Gigabit Ethernet, as it was requiring more operative transport voice, video and data. Subsequently, the transit authority realized that the up gradation involved complexity and time linked with it, as the full scale replacement of existing circuit based equipment was positioning the project timeline and budget at risk.

The transit authority then conducted a comprehensive analysis and decided to adopt a migration plan where the circuit outputs of existing equipment would connect to the 10 Gig network via circuit to packet converters. And that is when Engage Communication was selected for its IP-Tube product family.

The transit authority has now replaced the SONET rings with Engage IP-Tube across the network and is at ease with no concerns. The IPTube transparent operation maintains the proprietary signalling required supporting PBX (News - Alert) features such as call conferencing, calling forwarding, caller ID and SS7. This solution is available with Integrated Echo Cancellation and Lossless Data Compression features.

“Our broad array of circuit to packet interfaces (T1/E1, T3/E3, Serial and 4-wire), remote and central site chassis configurations, 15 years of circuit to packet expertise, and products designed and built in the U.S., make Engage a perfect fit for this application,” said Mark Doyle, Engage President and CEO.

Engage Communication has ROHS compliant solutions that allow organizations to route, bridge, encrypt, and auto protect Voice/Video/Data Networks.

Its voice, video, networking and network security products are used worldwide in industrial and military environments ranging from the air-conditioned safety of a CLEC data center, to the maritime solitude of an offshore drilling rig and the shadows of a Special Ops tactical deployment.
