New EdgeConneX Data Center Arrives in Salt Lake City, Utah

Cable and Internet providers in the greater Salt Lake City metropolitan area will be pleased to hear that EdgeConneX, a company that specializes in hosting edge network data, has launched a new Edge Data center in the area. The data center is located on the 2300 block of Presidents Drive in West Valley City, Utah. Edge networks duplicate the Internet content that is stored on computer servers around the world, and then deliver that information to local residents and businesses that request it.

Proximity matters when it comes to edge device networks, because the closer a data center is located to a target area, the faster that content will be delivered to a computer that requests it. The Salt Lake City facility installed by EdgeConnex will ultimately provide distributed Colocation closer to the key aggregation points that broadband providers in the area use.

EdgeConneX will offer these companies a choice of several wholesale and colocation options, with distinct differences in scalability. For example, a broadband provider could simply purchase a single server rack for use at the data center, or they could upgrade to multiple server racks as needed. For much larger providers, customized private cages will also be available.

In order to reliably deliver web content, the Salt Lake City data center features a redundant power source in case of a power outage. The facility also features high-density cooling and diverse fiber-optic connectivity between their other Edge Data centers, such as the ones located in Houston, Denver, Phoenix and Las Vegas.

According to EdgeConneX Chief Commercial Officer Clint Heiden, “Extending our national Edge Data center footprint is key in enabling providers to bring their bandwidth-intensive content and applications closer to the edge of the network, and will remain an ongoing mission of EdgeConneX throughout 2014 and beyond.”
