Defense Information System Agency (DISA) has awarded $3 million contract to Windstream (News - Alert), a provider of advanced network communications, to provide diverse fiber services to Fort Campbell and Dover Air Force Base.
As part of the pact, DISA’s current fiber network will be expanded into Fort Campbell, home to the only Air Assault Division in the world and located between Hopkinsville, Kentucky and Clarksville, Tennessee, creating additional route diversity and redundancy.
Expansion will also benefit Dover Air Force Base, located just outside of Dover, Del. Dover Air Force Base is home to the Air Mobility Command Museum.
Officials with Windstream said the company will install two half-10Gbps waves for fully diverse fiber paths into the facilities, tying those paths together to connect back to Windstream’s national fiber network.
Thanks to the custom-designed solution, thousands of employees at both Fort Campbell and Dover AFB will now be able to consistently connect to a secure, reliable network, increasing productivity and efficiency.
“By expanding the fiber at each of these locations, day-to-day business will flow even more efficiently,” said Mike Magliato, vice president and general manager of government solutions, Windstream, in a statement.
Magliato said that military facilities need to maintain network connectivity with secure and uncompromised connections.
“I’m proud that Windstream can provide the solid, reliable solutions that are so vital to the success of government operations,” he said.
Brian Washburn, service director, business network & IT services at Current Analysis (News - Alert) said that Windstream has a portfolio of advanced communication services, underpinned by a deep fiber optic network footprint to serve the mission critical communications requirements of U.S. Government organizations.
Washburn said that the fiber-based network purchased by DISA for these two important military bases is an example of high-speed, secure and diverse transport solutions that Windstream can provide to the U.S. government.
TMCnet recently reported that Windstream announced nationwide availability of its enterprise-class Unified Communications (News - Alert) as a Service (UCaaS), a fully managed cloud-based solution.
The solution is available to enterprise and mid-sized businesses nationwide for a flat monthly rate.
