IslaLink S.A. (IslaLink) has selected and deployed the Infinera (News - Alert) DTN-X packet optical transport networking platform across its submarine network.
DTN-X, Infinera's flagship multi-terabit Packet Optical Transport Network (P-OTN) platform, is designed to bring the economics and value of Photonic Integrated Circuits to the terabit age.
Infinera Intelligent Transport Network solutions include the DTN-X, DTN and ATN platforms.
Thanks to the Infinera Intelligent Transport Network, featuring the DTN-X platform, IslaLink will now be able to differentiate its services and manage costs as it scales network capabilities.
With the Infinera Intelligent Transport Network, IslaLink that operates submarine fiber optic cables between the Balearic Islands and the Spanish mainland will be able to provide operators connection between mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands, rapidly delivering 10 and 100 Gigabit Ethernet services.
As part of the pact, Infinera provides IslaLink with an Intelligent Transport Network featuring the only commercially available single-card 500 gigabit per second (Gb/s) FlexCoherent super-channel solution, which is based on Infinera's widely deployed photonic integrated circuits.
“This submarine cable connection is a critical route for us requiring high capacity 100G technology with OTN switching and extensive Raman technology,” said Ross Mullins, COO, IslaLink, in a statement.
Mullins said that the Infinera Intelligent Transport Network was an ideal solution for this network based on its super-channel technology, terabit switching capability, ease of operation and high reliability.
“The Infinera Intelligent Transport Network provides IslaLink a submarine solution that is designed to accommodate the requirements of their cable and delivers on the capacity demanded by their customers,” said Chris Champion, senior vice president, EMEA sales.
Champion said that the company is pleased to work with IslaLink to deploy the DTN-X platform on this network.
Earlier in May, Infinera, provider of Intelligent Transport Networks, and Australia Japan Cable (AJC) had announced the completion of a multi-terabit upgrade to AJC’s network.
This second and final phase of deployment completes a multi-terabit, high-capacity ring providing diverse fiber paths into cable landing stations in Australia, Guam and Japan, where Infinera DTN-X packet optical transport networking platforms enable an Intelligent Transport Network for AJC.
AJC offers connectivity and bandwidth to its customers across a 12,700 km submarine fiber optic cable network linking Australia, Guam and Japan. AJC is owned by some of the world’s leading service providers including Telstra (News - Alert), AT&T, NTT, Verizon and Softbank.
