The speed of the data that is transmitted over a fiber usually faces limitations due to high values of polarization mode dispersion (PMD) – a form of modal dispersion that limits the rate at which data can be transmitted over fiber. PMD is known to be a significant obstacle in both legacy and newly deployed networks.
Generally, high-speed fiber networks, such as long-haul and submarine routes, require tighter margins and more accurate measurements of PMD. The new battery-operated, high-power FTB-2200 Broadband Source is a compact, rugged and reliable broadband light source that can provide fast as well as accurate field-based PMD measurements when used in conjunction with the FTB-5500B generalized interferometric PMD analyzer. Precisely, it is a high-power, polarization-scrambled broadband LED source covering the C + L bands.
As a 40G/100G-ready high-power PMD source module featuring with a built-in polarization scrambler, the new FTB-2200 Broadband Source ensures that all legacy and newly designed networks can achieve optimal performance, regardless of transmission speed, when used with EXFO's (News - Alert) FTB-5500B.
Offering customers with additional tools to meet the demand for stable and resilient network performance, the FTB-2200 Broadband Source is designed for the FTB-200 Compact Platform and is ideal for OSP environment.
The FTB-5500B, which is used in conjunction with the new FTB-2200, has a unique technology that allows users to know both the auto-correlation and cross-correlation. With the help of this device, the auto-correlation peak is thus removed, and higher accuracy and resolution are obtained. PMD of 0 ps can be measured.
