EXFO, a provider of test and service assurance solutions, unveiled the FTB-720 LAN/WAN Access OTDR, the ideal construction OTDR for everyday testing in any access network as well as in LAN/WAN networks, according to the company.
The FTB-720 can be used to test singlemode and multimode fibers with a single unit and it blends modularity, connectivity and affordability. The new OTDR boosts test productivity for inside-plant applications and its exceptional 0.8 m event dead zone enables users to easily locate and characterize all events between the transmitter and the central office’s fiber distribution panel.
The FTB-720 is optimized for fiber-optic contractors and private network operators, enabling them to fully test and qualify any type of fiber network. It is accessible in various testing environment as it has abundant connectivity options such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Ethernet and multiple USB ports. Housed in the compact, cutting-edge FTB-1 Platform, the FTB-720 OTDR offers a widescreen TFT display with seamless hybrid touchscreen/keypad navigation.
It is claimed to be a fully integrated OTDR when it is combined with EXFO's (News - Alert) ConnectorMax Analysis Software, visual fault locator (VFL), fiber inspection probe (FIP), broadband power meter and CW source.
Officials with EXFO asserted that with this additional test module to its recently launched FTB-1 Platform, EXFO delivers fiber-testing specifications and meets a growing demand from its premises network customers. As a result, this highly versatile OTDR is tailor-made for contractors looking for a cost-effective field solution to handle all of their multimode and singlemode fiber-testing needs.
Some of the other notable features of the FTB-720 model are: it combines singlemode and multimode functionalities; it is ideal for private/premises/enterprise network testing; it offers the industry’s shortest dead zones as well as lightning-fast acquisitions; and users can test multimode fiber within premises or singlemode fiber between premises all with a single OTDR unit and maximize their return on investment.
