NetApp Complements Microsoft Virtualization Solutions

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor

NetApp, a Microsoft Global ISV and Gold Certified Partner, has announced the launch of NetApp SnapManager for Hyper-V and SnapManager 6.0 for Microsoft (News - Alert) Exchange Server. The products improve data backup and recovery in Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 and Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 environments.

Because NetApp SnapManager for Microsoft SQL Server and SnapManager for Microsoft SharePoint Server can now run on Windows Server 2008 R2, customers can completely leverage NetApp’s data management capabilities in their physical and virtualized environments.

Microsoft is helping customers build, manage, and maintain dynamic data center infrastructures. NetApp and Microsoft have previously worked together to develop tightly integrated solutions. This year, NetApp was chosen as Microsoft 2009 Partner of the Year in the Advanced Infrastructure, Storage Solutions category.

According to a company press release, NetApp solutions for Microsoft based environments have been enhanced with the following new products.

SnapManager for Hyper-V -- it enables automated, policy-based backup and recovery for applications and services running on Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V and Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 R2.

SnapManager 6.0 for Microsoft Exchange Server -- minimizes the number of Exchange data copies that enterprise customers need to deploy while continuing to provide enterprise-class data protection.

ApplianceWatch PRO 2.0 -- offers customers discovery, health monitoring, and performance monitoring of their NetApp storage systems with Microsoft Systems Center Operations Manager.

In the release, Zane Adam, general manager of virtualization and management at Microsoft, said NetApp has solutions that deliver significant cost savings and flexibility to their mutual customers.

NetApp storage helps customers improve control and reduce the risk of implementing and managing virtualized environments.

"NetApp complements Microsoft virtualization solutions to help meet the most demanding uptime requirements of physical and virtualized environments," said Patrick Rogers, vice president of Solutions and Alliances at NetApp. "Together, we provide customers a compelling value proposition to help reduce costs and deploy, manage, and maintain their complex infrastructures to get the most value from their storage and server investments."
