Handmark Launches Six New Applications for Android Customers

By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor

Handmark has launched six new applications for Google (News - Alert) Android users.

Based on traditional games and resource books, applications include New Oxford American Dictionary and Thesaurus, New Oxford Dictionary of English, New Oxford Dictionary of Spanish, Astraware Sudoku, Astraware Solitaire and Astraware Boardgames.

Handmark (News - Alert), which creates and distributes mobile applications and services, is a key partner for top brands and mobile providers in Android application development and management. Handmark distributes a wide range of mobile titles through its direct channels.

In addition, the company manages other mobile stores for major carriers and device manufactures. Handmark’s games and applications add to a growing catalogue of top-selling titles available for Android (News - Alert)-based smartphones.

According to Evan Conway, EVP of Marketing at Handmark, it is Handmark’s expertise with the development of quality applications as well as its unique ability to widely distribute and effectively monetize mobile applications that makes it one of the clear partners for helping brands and other content providers reach the Android audience.

The latest applications build on the success of Express News, one of the first applications developed by Handmark for Android-based phones. The news application delivers more than 300 news feeds in eight languages.

According to a reviewer from the web-based media outlet Android Guys, for the past few months, his morning news source has been replaced by Express News. Express News provides instant access to news channels from providers like Associated Press (News - Alert), Canadian Press and Agence France-Presse. A number of topics like general headlines, U.S. news, world news, strange news, technology news, movie news and lifestyle news are available.

Handmark is planning to develop and support a number of Android applications for major media brands and other content providers over the next year. Handmark’s unique Mobile Publishing Platform technology enables media companies and content publishers to create their own branded, always-on personalized mobile applications quickly and easily. The Mobile Publishing Platform is a “Software as a Service” platform designed to automatically ingest a number of web content types and optimize them for delivery to mobile devices resulting in a finished product in a matter of weeks. The always-on user experience delivers 20 times the number of page views per user when compared to traditional mobile web browsing.
