Telenor Norway, a provider of wireless communication services in Norway, has reportedly selected Starent Networks, a provider of infrastructure solutions for mobile operators, to provide multimedia core network equipment for its 2G, 3G/UMTS and 4G/LTE (News - Alert) networks.

 

Under the agreement, Telenor will deploy Starent`s Serving GPRS Support Node and Gateway (News - Alert) GPRS Support Node for the 2G and 3G/UMTS networks and Mobility Management Entity, Serving Gateway and Packet Data Network Gateway for the 4G/LTE network on the ST40 multimedia core platform.

 

In addition, Telenor (News - Alert)`s network will also  use Starent`s Network-based Traffic Optimization In-Line Service.

 

"This is the biggest upgrade of the mobile network in Norway we have ever carried out. It will create a solid base for further developing the services offered by the Telenor mobile network and the quality of those services," said Ragnar Kårhus, CEO at Telenor Norway, in a statement.

 

Kårhus also said that his company believes Starent Networks (News - Alert) is the best fit for this criterion in terms of providing a high-performance solution that is capable of integrating network intelligence, other than extending support to 2G, 3G and 4G on a common core platform.
