ICT Services Provider ATIO Using Ixia's Network Test Solutions

By Patrick Barnard, Senior Web Editor, TMCnet

South Africa-based ICT services provider ATIO is reportedly using Ixia’s test solutions to ensure the performance of its customers’ networks.

“At ATIO, we are proud to be associated with Ixia (News - Alert), a global market leader,” said Tim Courtenay, managing director of ATIO telecoms division, in a release. “ATIO is a specialist ICT services provider and we believe that this innovation gives our customers the additional competitive advantage to provide quality IP services to their users. It's about improving the customer experience, be it voice, Internet, corporate applications or government services.”

Ixia’s expansive testing portfolio includes service level agreement management, MPLS and carrier Ethernet testing, data center testing, wireless testing, triple play testing and quality of experience testing and management.

“Ixia provides IP test capability from the core to the edge throughout the product and service life cycle,” said Mark Chaplain, Ixia’s vice president of the EMEA region. “A crucial component to rapid new service introduction is pre-deployment testing. Furthermore, operational assurance solutions from Ixia enable proactive management of customer experience – a key differentiator for successful business.”

“It is imperative for telecoms service providers, carriers, enterprises and government to test their network platforms and services early on and regularly,” Chaplain added. “This real-world testing ensures quality of products, service delivery, performance and reliability to their customers in an increasingly competitive and demanding market.”

Ixia claims its testing solution provides continuous and competitive benefits for all telecommunications services providers irrespective of their type of network. The unified testing tool has the ability to measure and monitor whether the network is working at its full capacity or not using a unique real-world testing technique.

Ixia recently demonstrated its newest IxNetwork 5.40 release, powered by ViperCore technology, during the Carrier Ethernet World Congress (CEWC) trade show held Sept. 21-24. The tool is used to test Carrier Ethernet transport technology vendor implementations including MPLS and PBB-TE and management services, such as Link OAM, Y.1731, Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) and Connectivity Fault Management (CFM). Using the XM12 chassis with 80 high-performance 1 Gbps test ports, Ixia validated end-to-end data plane performance, including key measurements such as packet loss, throughput and latency.

Carrier Ethernet has matured significantly in the last five years to the point where transport and management protocols and implementations are ready to supply global services. Ixia said the purpose of its showcase at CEWC was to mirror modern converged networks, including mobile radio access elements, IP/MPLS routers and both aggregation and access switches.

“The focus of the interoperability showcase this year is around global interconnect, LTE (News - Alert)-ready mobile backhaul and managed Ethernet services,” said Carsten Rossenhoevel, managing director at EANTC, in a release. “IxNetwork’s ability to test routing, switching and infrastructure elements was invaluable for establishing interoperability for Carrier Ethernet transport and management protocols. The large number of tester ports was instrumental in maximizing the number of test results.”

Ixia also made news recently when it announced that Telekom Slovenije, a telecommunications company in Slovenia, is now using Ixia’s IxRave service verification solution to verify and manage customer quality of experience of its multiplay subscribers.
