By Jayashree Adkoli, TMCnet Contributor

AMAX, a provider of custom servers, storage and HPC solutions, reportedly has launched a new series of Foxhollow based servers called “ServMax Lynnfield Servers.”

Leveraging Intel’s (News - Alert) latest Xeon 3400 Series – code name Lynnfield – processors, AMAX’s (News - Alert) latest ServMax Lynnfield-based servers delivers 50 percent more performance, lower power consumption, and lower cost compared to the previous generation servers, says company.

According to Intel, Lynnfield is the codename for a four core desktop processor used on the Intel 5 series chipset based platforms. It is comprised of a 45nm processor core with integrated memory controller and PCI Express graphics interface. Lynnfield is based on Intel microarchitecture codename Nehalem. This Xeon 3400 family of Intel processors targets entry-level servers.

AMAX ServMax X1103 servers are 1U general purpose Uni-Processor (News - Alert) server based on Intel Lynnfield processor and Intel 45 nm Nehalem micro-architecture. These servers are ideal for SMB environment embedded applications and Web farms, such as Web and storage servers or rendering clusters.

AMAX’s ServMax X1101 servers are short-depth servers. These 1U 14.0” half-depth servers are also targeted for lightweight, high density deployments. Also based on Intel Lynnfield processor and Intel Core microarchitecture, the X1101 short-depth servers are also ideal for SMB environment, embedded applications and Web farms. Optional IPMI 2.0 card with dedicated LAN is provided for sever management option.

Jean Shih, president of AMAX, said in a statement: “With Lynnfield-based servers, AMAX is offering reliable, high performance solutions that are both cost effective and energy efficient.”
Apart from featuring integrated PCI-Express 2.0 I/O, the AMAX ServMax servers also feature integrated memory controller (IMC) and provide support for DDR3 ECC memory. It provides flexibility in internal storage and I/O as well.  An on-board Intel Dual Gigabit Controller 82574L and 82578DM are also included in these servers for Ethernet connection.

Based on many Intel technologies, AMAX’s ServMax Lynnfield servers support Intel Turbo Boost as well as Intel Hyper-Threading technologies. The servers are integrated with Intel Rapid Recover Technology and Intel Rapid Storage Technology, with support for RAID 0/1/5/10. Intel Active Management Technology is also incorporated into the latest servers to remotely discover, heal, & protect workstations.

Fremont, Calif.-based AMAX operates two key divisions that deliver customized computing solutions to a wide range of industries. The company’s Appliance Manufacturing Division provides manufacturing solutions and global logistics to OEM customers while company’s Corporate Solutions Division provides scalable custom server, workstation, server, and cluster products.
