BakBone Software, a provider of Universal Data Management solutions, has announced that its Linux-based data protection solution, “NetVault,” has helped hospice care services provider VistaCare to manage backup files in an easy way.
In a release, VistaCare officials said the company’s earlier backup software was not capable of handling major restore operations. The actual challenge for VistaCare’s IT administrators was sorting out old and new files.
The actual problem was that VistaCare’s older technology took more than three hours to restore a 12-gig set of files. IT administrators misunderstood it as a software error and initiated three different restores that created three copies. In the mean time, users continued to make modifications to the different data tests. With this, IT administrators could not sort the old data from the new and ultimately resulted in loosing a week's productivity while trying to resolve restore issues.
VistaCare was in need of a cost effective enterprise-wide backup system, which could efficiently handle larger volumes of data — from daily incrementals to weekly fulls, thereby reducing system administration time.
BakBone Software’s NetVault data protection solution came to the rescue of VistaCare.
According to BakBone, NetVault is a suite of software solution for data protection, disaster recovery, business continuity and more. This solution not only offers real-time backup and fast recovery, but also offers enterprise-class data protection for complex heterogeneous environments. Its flexible, modular architecture not only supports a wide variety of new database versions, operating systems, and other applications, but also helps in meeting current and future data protection. It also reduces deployment costs and total cost of ownership (TCO).
Moreover, NetVault’s Backup solution features disk-to-disk backup along with true cross platform protection. Its VMware plug-in protects an individual single ESX server or a full VirtualCenter while allowing users to create flexible backup policies without the need to create complex scripting. Additionally, the solution is also provided with encryption plug-in that offers CAST-128, AES-256 and CAST-256 algorithm support options to meet regulatory requirements.
NetVault supports Linux. The configuration deployed by VistaCare incorporated mixed servers constituting Linux servers, and NT Servers, Windows 2000 and XP Desktops. Total of 50 servers utilized Red Hat (News - Alert) Enterprise Linux 2.1, 3.0 and Gentoo operating systems.
Apart from rapid system recovery, NetVault also provided comprehensive disaster recovery solution for VistaCare.
In the release, Dave Siroff, network engineer, VistaCare, said "NetVault allows VistaCare to efficiently manage and expand its storage capabilities with less disruption to the user community. It provides a complete Linux-based data protection solution designed to leverage legacy storage investments, protect enterprise data assets, maintain business continuity, and lower IT cost."
Ultimately, VistaCare is now capable of meeting its increasing storage demands as its IT infrastructure grows with the help of NetVault.
VistaCare is a hospice provider caring for more than 5,300 patients each day throughout 44 programs in 14 states.
