Conexant Systems, a supplier of semiconductor solutions for imaging, audio, embedded modem, and video surveillance applications, has partnered with AnyDATA, a firm that designs and manufactures wireless devices, to deliver “connected” frame and home security reference designs for products used in 3G broadband cellular networks.

 

“Leveraging AnyDATA’s (News - Alert) expertise in 3G wireless solutions allows us to broaden our scope and address emerging imaging and video surveillance opportunities in the adjacent telecommunications sector,” René Hartner, vice president of video product marketing and ecosystem partners at Conexant, said.

 

The first reference design is targeted at “connected” frames and interactive display devices, allowing consumers to access pictures, videos, and other multimedia content from the Internet in real-time. In addition, they can also view the files on devices with large color displays and touch-screen functionality.

 

Company officials said that the second reference design is aimed at motion-triggered alarm systems with visual verification capabilities used in “smart” home security applications.

 

The reference designs feature Conexant’s CX92735 imaging and CX93510 video surveillance solutions. In addition, the designs also come with AnyDATA’s DTP-600W 3G high-speed data packet access cellular module.

 

In addition to streaming media content and MP3 audio playback with slideshow functionality, Conexant’s CX92735 imaging solution also supports multiple connectivity options. Moreover, it is compliant with industry-standard video and audio formats including MPEG-4 and MP3, company officials said.

 

Conexant’s CX93510 encoder allows video streams to be captured and recorded simultaneously and features support for passive infrared technology. Company officials said that this device operates at 12 milliamperes in full power and 10 nanoamps in sleep mode, which maximizes battery life. Additional features include motion jpeg compression and Conexant’s proprietary differential encoding technology.

 

AnyDATA’s high-speed DTP-600W module transmits data at broadband speeds of 3.6 Mbps downlink and 384 kbps upstream. Company officials said that this 3G module has received Technical Acceptance by AT&T and Vodafone (News - Alert) for use on their wireless data networks. And, the AnyDATA HSDPA module operates globally on tri-band UMTS 850/1900/2100 and quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 wireless networks.

 

 Dr. Soon Shin, CEO at AnyDATA, said that integrating Conexant’s imaging and video technologies with the company’s globally certified module allows carriers and OEMs to rapidly launch exciting connected devices that quickly create new revenues and set them apart from the competition.

 

“We look forward to working with AnyDATA on future solutions that allow consumers and enterprises to transmit and share videos, photos, and other large files over 3G broadband cellular networks,” Hartner said

 

The new solutions are to be demonstrated for the first time at the Mobile World Congress, according to the companies.
