Glowpoint Extends Clientele, Now Serves Major Sports Broadcast Network

By Carolyn J Dawson, TMCnet Contributor

A supplier of advanced video communications solutions, Glowpoint (News - Alert) recently announced that a major sports broadcast network has chosen its managed service for airing a new program. The new program will be broadcast across its network and its website. The new customer’s name could not be disclosed due to confidentiality policies of the network. The latest client has signed on for Glowpoint’s managed services for an estimated initial value of $250,000 annually. This value includes money which has to be paid for services on a monthly recurring basis.

The company’s Vice President of Broadcast Services, Dan Boland (News - Alert) said that Glowpoint continues to be recognized as a flexible, high-quality solution with compelling value for the broadcast industry.

“This particular broadcast solution will go beyond typical on-air programming to a broadband community that can view the show worldwide,” Boland said. “As broadcasters seek to expand their reach for both on-air and online properties, we expect to see increased traction and acceptance in this market.”

Glowpoint has agreed to deliver managed video services and network services which will provide connectivity between 10 NFL and team locations within the network’s broadcast studio. The company innovative set of capabilities will facilitate bilateral communication which will be suited for conducting interviews and also content acquisition.

The company will be utilizing video conferencing equipment along with Glowpoint’s managed video service. The programming content so acquired will be used to make a live and recorded show which will be telecast daily all throughout the network and its website.

The sports network chose to go with Glowpoint’s set of managed services only after carefully studying several alternatives. Glowpoint’s solutions were ultimately chosen because they provided video and audio capabilities bundled. Conventional communication solutions provide video and audio feeds separately, necessitating the use of a separate headset or set of earpieces.

However, Glowpoint transmits both video and audio signals together, completely eliminating the need for a separate set of earphones. Glowpoint also allows production staff to chat live with show hosts without any fear of interrupting interviewees, thanks to its discreet audio functionality.

Glowpoint’s Telepresence (News - Alert) InterExchange Network, or “TEN,” service promises to deliver broadcast quality, dynamic and instantaneous video transmissions at a very cost effective rate when compared to conventional satellite based offerings.
