Starling Advanced Communications is all set to introduce StarRail, a solution that provides broadband communications aboard high-speed trains, at a trade show next month.
This is the newest entry in the company’s portfolio of flat-panel satellite antennas for “Broadband on the Move,” said company officials.
“StarRail gives unparalleled value, both in terms of performance and ROI,” said Jacob Keret, vice president marketing and sales at Starling Advanced Communications.
He said that the two-way continuous broadband connectivity of this latest offering is reliable at speeds exceeding 300 km per hour, and its “high efficiency” gives operators a lower cost per megabyte.
Starling products leverage Ku-band and coherent multi-panel antenna technology (CoMPATM). This allows multi Mbps performance for voice, streaming internet and video and the transmission of other types of heavy files that support all passenger and crew applications simultaneously.
StarRail measures only 38 in/96 cm in diameter, and weighs around 60 lbs/27 kg. In addition, the unit’s aerodynamic design ensures virtually no interference with surrounding power lines and complete tunnel clearance.
In StarRail, all RF and electronic components are integrated within one self-contained unit. Officials said that this ensures “fast and easy one-wire installation, reducing downtime as well as long-term maintenance costs.”
Moreover, the antenna design itself ensures maximum efficient use of bandwidth and beam width, resulting in significant reduction in the cost of satellite time.
Officials said that StarRail complies with all railway standards. Plus, its features make it an “ideal solution” for cross-continent and international high-speed rail travel across any type of terrain.
