Schumacher Group Arms Itself in the Wake of Disaster

It takes a disaster to make enterprises and business sit up and take notice of the situation. It is then that they realize that they too are vulnerable when it comes to ensuring durability of medical informatics and operational data in the wake of havoc created by a natural calamity.


The havoc wreaked by the category 4 hurricane, Hurricane Katrina, caused Schumacher Group, based in Lafayette, La., to wake up from the lulled complacency it had fallen into. It was then that the group decided to move the business processes into the cloud in the likely event of future hurricanes damaging company headquarters.

One thing that the group could not afford was the interruption of continual access to their information systems by their emergency medicine staff. Once they had decided to replace their on-premise payroll and human resources system, they wanted an alternative that would ensure data durability and security, for any solution would have to meet stringent HIPAA requirements.

A partnership between two SaaS (News - Alert) companies, NETtime Solutions and Workday, was the answer, as both in conjunction would provide an end-to-end solution for the group's workforce management needs.

Karen Gerac, project manager for HR integration, said in a press release that NETtime, the available anywhere, anytime SaaS time and labor management product, collected and recorded time and attendance data that was available in real time for payroll and workforce management. Gerac commented that NETtime's built-in interactive voice response added superior value as remote employees could use a phone to call in and record time punches. This integral function provided Schumacher with real-time employee work data, something that other solutions failed to do. This real-time functionality, Gerac added saved the group a lot of time, provided real-time data of employees' activities, and was more efficient and more compact that the solution that the previous provider had provided. 

Bahan Sadegh, CEO and founder of NETtime Solutions, said that the Schumacher Group was a visionary organization and leader in adopting cloud computing or SaaS.
