GCFLearnFree.org Achieves 100,000 Mobile Applications Downloads Within Six Months

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

GCFLearnFree.org, a mobile app provider, has achieved 100,000 mobile downloads in less than six months.

These 100,000 mobile applications have allowed people around the world access to free educational content through mobile applications.

“We’re excited about reaching new learners through this medium and what this means about the future of education technology,” said Matt Robinson, GCFLearnFree.org, in a statement. “As we move forward, we plan to develop mobile apps based on new tutorials as they are created, as well as explore the design of original content specifically with mobile app technology.”

Recently, GCFLearnFree.org launched a Vocabulary Dictionary for iPhone (News - Alert). Based on the tutorials available at GCFLearnFree.org, the Word 2010 Tutorial App for iPad takes the learner through the features of Microsoft Word 2010. The application explores program basics and common tasks. The app also offers instructional step-by-step text by graphics and over 25 videos.

Besides the Vocabulary Dictionary Mobile app for iPhone, GCFLearnFree.org added Tutorial apps for Word 2010, Excel 2010, and PowerPoint 2010, available on both iPhone and Android (News - Alert) devices.

With 60,874 downloads, Word 2010 Tutorial App for iPhone is the most popular mobile application. While the iPhone apps have outperformed the Android apps in total downloads, all eight applications have garnered high ratings and positive feedback.

Current mobile applications are based on the popular tutorials found on the Website, company officials said. The content available through GCF Mobile Apps continues to be made available through GCFLearnFree.org.

In the coming months, the company will release updated versions of current mobile apps, as well as additional mobile applications for the iPad.
